Ana de Armas’ Assassin Story Unfolds in Ballerina Final Look

Just three weeks until From the World of John Wick: Ballerina premieres in theaters. The Ana de Armas–helmed spinoff from the John Wick franchise is set to transport us back into the franchise’s high-octane, stylish, and brutally violent world, and now the film has shared its final trailer ahead of its June 6, 2025, release.

Ballerina is set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the 2019 sequel where we last saw Keanu Reeves’ titular character. In the film, the High Table of assassins made John Wick an “excommunicado” after he gunned down one of their own, crime boss Santino D’Antonio (Daniele Pendory), at the Continental Hotel. Wick spent the next film on the run from the multi-million-dollar bounty that was placed on his head, escaping his bounty hunters across New York City, before finally making his way to the headquarters of the Ruska Roma crime family.

Led by the mysterious Director (Anjelica Huston), the Ruska Roma family provided Wick with a haven as he escaped from the rest of the assassination underworld, while also serving as a brutal training ground for the organization’s young recruits. The Director, as we saw in a brief moment in Parabellum, raised her army of ballerina-assassins, who were sent out to dance (and murder) their way through their enemies. Parabellum showed one of the Ruska Roma’s young ballerina trainees, played by Unity Phelan, rehearsing her dance on stage. This character was Eve Macarro, and she will now be the star of the new spinoff film, played by Ana de Armas.

In addition to Huston, who will reprise her role as the Director, Ian McShane will also return to the franchise as the Continental manager Winston. Lance Reddick, who died in March 2023 at the age of 54, will also make his final appearance as the Continental’s ubiquitous concierge, Charon. Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and David Castañeda round out the cast. Byrne plays the Chancellor, the main antagonist of the film and the unseen force responsible for uniting an entire town against Eve. Duncan-Brewster will play Eve’s mentor Nogi, while Reedus appears as Daniel Pine. Moreno and Castañeda’s characters in the film have not been revealed yet.

A Revenge Story with John Wick Vibes

The first trailer for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina came out way back in September 2024 and focused heavily on Eve’s backstory. As we learned in that first teaser, Eve was orphaned as a young girl and joined the Ruska Roma crime family to find the people who murdered her father. We got the sense from the original Ballerina trailer that this would be a smaller-scale revenge story with more emotional weight than some of the other films in the franchise. We also got a fleeting glimpse of John Wick in that trailer, but the ballerina-protagonist was the main attraction.

The second trailer for Ballerina dropped in March 2025 and gave fans a lot more of what they wanted. We finally got to see Eve meeting John Wick in a foggy, white room, a surprisingly intimate and loaded moment between the two killers. In this second trailer, we didn’t learn much more than what was in the first, but this new footage with Wick in the frame seemed to promise more of his screen time and his reaction to Eve’s motivations and mission.

The new and final trailer for Ballerina, on the other hand, is more cutthroat. In the opening seconds, we see Eve at the edge of a rooftop, looking upward as John Wick is in clear view of her in his scope. We then see clips from the previous trailers and new footage as well, creating a frenzy of new choreography in which Ana de Armas is a ballerina-assassin taking out her enemies one after another with balletic moves of extreme violence. The trailer showcases the impressive physicality and dedication of de Armas to the role and style of the franchise, which, in a way, is its biggest selling point. Not only that, but it also shows us the relationship between Eve and Wick, giving us one very important line that reveals Eve’s motivation and the all-consuming nature of her revenge: “This isn’t done until they’re dead.”
